An obscure movie, but!! It's a goofy little thing about a teen assassin (Megan, played by Hailee Steinfeld) who fakes her death to get away from the organization that raised and trained her and go live a normal teen life like she's seen in movies and magazines. She ends up pretending to be an exchange student from Canada and moving in with a family who has no idea who she really is (including Liz, played by Dove Cameron). Of course, her past soon catches up with her in the form of a rival agent (Sophie Turner) coming in hot to steal her new boyfriend and the leader of her former organization (Samuel L. Jackson) figuring out she's still alive.
I love how Megan's overenthusiastic-but-clueless attempts to be a "normal" teenager clash with Liz's antisocial determination to hate everything about high school. And everything in the movie feels so very comp-het with shades of queer underneath, there's so much room to play.

I tend to prefer pre-relationship or getting together fic over established relationship for this canon. And I'm very, very flexible when it comes to what counts as "shippy."
I also adore interpretations that go darker-than-canon and really dive into the more dangerous aspects at play here, and am always a sucker for anything hurt/comfort.

If you kind of know Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but you're like, "Ruby? Who the fuck is Ruby?" yeah that sounds about right. Allow me to explain.
This is my enemies to lovers ship. Ruby shows up in season 5 after the S.H.I.E.L.D. team returns from their unexpected vacation to the future/space. She was raised in a HYDRA bunker, the only one remaining from what used to be a HYDRA academy training the villains of tomorrow.
From the jump, she's obsessed with Daisy. She's introduced with a poster of her (as her superhero alias, Quake) on her bedroom wall. It's major "does she want to be her? does she want to fuck her? does she want to kill her?" vibes, while Daisy, when they meet, is convinced she can be the one to ~save Ruby from her evil choices (that are literally threatening to destroy the world).
Spoiler alert: Ruby dies pretty quickly and gruesomely. So this requires playing fast and loose with canon. On the bright side, her only being in six episodes makes it an easy canon review! (and the fandom wiki is very helpful)

I'm totally good with fic that goes canon divergence where Ruby lives, or Daisy finding another version of Ruby in another timeline when they start jumping around in the final season. I love fic that's plotty, smutty, angsty, character/relationship exploration, hate sex, pre-relationship, anything here! Even just exploring Ruby's complicated feelings towards Daisy w/o it going further, etc. I just want the VIBES man. Romantic or sexual (or both).
I will say, I DO prefer acknowledging and/or dealing with the "enemies" bit between them as opposed to just handwaving it away and jumping to romance. I also obviously don't expect anyone to write the epic it would take to get them from where they are in canon to being in a proper romantic relationship.

Marina/Julia: I shipped this so hard when I first watched the show. Julia is so determined to find her place, but also so lost and cut off from her friends. I love that Marina is a bossy bitch but ultimately is the one that comes through for Julia when she needs her. And kind of hate that the opposite was not true.
Marina/Margo: Honestly I never thought about this one while watching, but someone requested it in an exchange once and it got stuck in my head. I love them both and am so fascinated by what their dynamic might be in a more intimate setting.

I do have a soft spot for original timeline Marina over the one that shows up later on. If you do something properly romantic with Marina/Julia, I would prefer you stick with the og. If you want to use a Marina from another timeline with Julia, I would be interested in Julia making it about og Marina (eg "I have guilt over that, and transferring it onto you") or just something weird or fucked up. With Margo, feel free to use any Marina.
In general, feel free to play extremely fast and loose with the timelines/canon to make the story you want to tell work. I am not picky about that stuff at all.
Good with a variety of dynamics for whichever ship you go with here. Friends/enemies with benefits, actually falling for one another, angry pining, toxic bullshit, etc etc. The only thing I don't think I'd be particularly interested in is established romantic relationship where everything is cute and good.
It's fine to include any canonical deaths, including Marina's, or just hand wave them away and keep people alive however you'd like. I'm also fine with inclusion of any part of the Reynard storyline, in any way you see fit.

Edda/Inanna: I thought their couple of scenes together pre-route split were very cute, and I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity that they don't get more, especially on the Iria route where we know they're both hanging around with Sword of Convallaria for a while. I wonder how Edda feels about finding out that the helpess refugee girl she was caring for is really the princess. Did she suspect anything? And is Inanna ever in a position to help Edda like Edda helped her?
Rawiyah/Saffiyah: Them being forced to work together on the Iria route was catnip to me. Their combination of familiarity, respect for each other's abilities (though not each other's life choices), and antagonism was A+. I would love to see at least a snippet of an enemies-to-lovers arc for them, or just them having bad-idea casual quasi-hatesex that they don't want to acknowledge in the morning. (Rawiyah can blame it on the alcohol.... right?)

I really loved their relationship in the game, with Mammon as Ange's first friend, and even though she's this non-human being driven by greed, she gets so angry on Ange's behalf when Ange is mistreated, and she really does seem to care, in her own way. I can imagine Ange's feelings for her shading into romance (especially since Ange is so lonely), although of course any kind of relationship would be complicated by Mammon's status as furniture and the fact that she's.... a non-human being driven by greed. I'd be interested in both fic set when Ange is at boarding school and fic set during the game's "present day" after Ange becomes able to summon the Stakes again.

What I like about them is that Rook gets past her barriers and helps her open up and believe again (I prefer the hope for Dock Town route for her). Also, her calling Rook 'Trouble' is just perfect.
Bellara/Rook: this was the romance of my first playthrough! Bellara is just so sweet, I love her, and I actually really like her anxiety, how sometimes she struggles to talk about her feelings, writing down things for the final scene was so lovely. I just want them to be sweet and happy (or angst and comforting! They both have enough unprocessed trauma for it).
Neve/Bellara: I'm surprised they weren't a possible companion romance! They're so sweet with each other, starting with Bellara's hero worship, but turning into a true friendship. I love that Bellara is so full of hope and Neve is a lot more jaded, but Neve isn't unkind to her about it, And the way that Neve tracked down the stories that Bellara wanted to read, and even went so far as to find the author's note for the canceled sequel! I love everything about that. Also, Neve only eats fish so clearly Bellara needs to cook her a better diet.

A while back, I ran through the entire Zero Two cast out of curiosity in an attempt to figure out who the ideal ship for Sora would be. I wasn't very invested in her back then, on account of her not having much screentime, and I figured that trying to puzzle this out would give me a better understanding of dynamics involving her. The main criteria here are "capable of being someone she can lean on for support through her abusive family situation" and "capable of allowing her to want things," which are two things that haven't been going very well for her the last time we see her in canon.
My conclusion was that the optimal result would be Sora/Menoa; they both experienced partnership dissolution for similar reasons, and Menoa is empathetic to a fault and well-suited to breaking through her shell while Sora can act as a more chill stabilizing influence to keep her self-destructive tendencies in check.* Zero Two's epilogue holds that, at some point between 2010 and 2028, Sora should fuck off from the family business entirely to pursue a career she actually enjoys; Menoa seems like one of the best options for someone to help her do that. Given that neither of these characters appeared very often, anything I can say about their dynamic would inherently be speculation, but I honestly think they have the right "each of them is the person most perfectly suited to help advance the other's character arc" thing going on to be jogress partners should their respective partner digimon be reborn.
Thanks to the process of figuring out this niche rarepair that as far as I can tell didn't exist at all before I came up with it, I am now invested in Sora, and I'm interested to see what the fandom at large can do with this pairing. If you are a Zero Two enjoyer and a Kizuna understander, I encourage you to give it a shot.
*While I was typing this up, the phrase "the MadoHomu version of Miyako/Hikari" popped into my head — meaning, Miyako/Hikari if they were willing to do pointless cosmic-level stunts entirely in service of their relationship development — and I can't stop thinking about it.

Jackson) figuring out she's still alive.
I love how Megan's overenthusiastic-but-clueless attempts to be a "normal" teenager clash with Liz's antisocial determination to hate everything about high school. And everything in the movie feels so very comp-het with shades of queer underneath, there's so much room to play.

If you kind of know Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but you're like, "Ruby? Who the fuck is Ruby?" yeah that sounds about right. Allow me to explain.
This is my enemies to lovers ship. Ruby shows up in season 5 after the S.H.I.E.L.D. team returns from their unexpected vacation to the future/space. She was raised in a HYDRA bunker, the only one remaining from what used to be a HYDRA academy training the villains of tomorrow.
From the jump, she's obsessed with Daisy. She's introduced with a poster of her (as her superhero alias, Quake) on her bedroom wall. It's major "does she want to be her? does she want to fuck her? does she want to kill her?" vibes, while Daisy, when they meet, is convinced she can be the one to ~save Ruby from her evil choices (that are literally threatening to destroy the world).
Spoiler alert: Ruby dies pretty quickly and gruesomely. So this requires playing fast and loose with canon. On the bright side, her only being in six episodes makes it an easy canon review! (and the fandom wiki is very helpful)

I'm totally good with fic that goes canon divergence where Ruby lives, or Daisy finding another version of Ruby in another timeline when they start jumping around in the final season. I love fic that's plotty, smutty, angsty, character/relationship exploration, hate sex, pre-relationship, anything here! Even just exploring Ruby's complicated feelings towards Daisy w/o it going further, etc. I just want the VIBES man. Romantic or sexual (or both).
I will say, I DO prefer acknowledging and/or dealing with the "enemies" bit between them as opposed to just handwaving it away and jumping to romance. I also obviously don't expect anyone to write the epic it would take to get them from where they are in canon to being in a proper romantic relationship.

Edda/Inanna: I thought their couple of scenes together pre-route split were very cute, and I think it's a bit of a missed opportunity that they don't get more, especially on the Iria route where we know they're both hanging around with Sword of Convallaria for a while. I wonder how Edda feels about finding out that the helpess refugee girl she was caring for is really the princess. Did she suspect anything? And is Inanna ever in a position to help Edda like Edda helped her?
Rawiyah/Saffiyah: Them being forced to work together on the Iria route was catnip to me. Their combination of familiarity, respect for each other's abilities (though not each other's life choices), and antagonism was A+. I would love to see at least a snippet of an enemies-to-lovers arc for them, or just them having bad-idea casual quasi-hatesex that they don't want to acknowledge in the morning. (Rawiyah can blame it on the alcohol.... right?)

I had never thought of this pairing before browsing the tagset, and now I'm deeply intrigued by the potential points of commonality between two people who started out as Jedi, turned to the dark side, and then came back to the light--and by their differences in personality and approach. I'd prefer something set after Dooku cuts Asajj loose. An AU of the Temple Bombing arc where Asajj and Barriss escape Coruscant together could be interesting, or something set after the fall of the Republic--whether that means using Tales of the Empire and having Asajj and Barriss meet up after Barriss abandons the inquisition, or going AU and having Asajj break Barriss out of jail for some reason.

Thirteen/Missy: oh the potential for a messy/complicated relationship! I particularly love it when Missy is still horrible to everyone else, but legitimately loves the Doctor in her own twisted way, whatever that might mean. Also fun, the Doctor not wanting to trust her because it hurts too much, but Missy won't give up, and the Doctor has to admit that she still has feelings for her (the whole mess of friends/enemies/exes to lovers vibe). This doesn't need a fairy tale happy ending (I doubt they could have it), open ended/somewhat hopeful/just not completely bleak and hopeless is fine (including just going back to status quo at the end, enemies with loving interruptions and all of that).
Thirteen/River: I think they could have such a great vibe. It could be fun if it's something like husbands of River Song where she doesn't recognise the Doctor because she doesn't have that photo. Or maybe it's not the first time she meets that face so it's all fun/romantic shenanigans. Or even Thirteen thinks that River won't recognise her but River already met future!Thirteen? I would especially love Thirteen being flustered at River's flirting.

Neve/Rook: I love Neve, she tries to seem so cynical and like she doesn't let it get to her how corrupt Minrathous is, but she can't stop caring about people and wanting to make things better. I love that she's a walking noir trope, and she attracts wisps and cats which is like, certifiable sweet person behavior. What I like about them is that Rook gets past her barriers and helps her open up and believe again (I prefer the hope for Dock Town route for her). Also, her calling Rook 'Trouble' is just perfect.
Bellara/Rook: this was the romance of my first playthrough! Bellara is just so sweet, I love her, and I actually really like her anxiety, how sometimes she struggles to talk about her feelings, writing down things for the final scene was so lovely. I just want them to be sweet and happy (or angst and comforting! They both have enough unprocessed trauma for it).
Neve/Bellara: I'm surprised they weren't a possible companion romance! They're so sweet with each other, starting with Bellara's hero worship, but turning into a true friendship. I love that Bellara is so full of hope and Neve is a lot more jaded, but Neve isn't unkind to her about it, And the way that Neve tracked down the stories that Bellara wanted to read, and even went so far as to find the author's note for the canceled sequel! I love everything about that. Also, Neve only eats fish so clearly Bellara needs to cook her a better diet.

Nori/Poppy: I love friends to lovers, and they are so sweet together. I also love how they trust each other and how Poppy is willing to just follow whatever ridiculous thing Nori wants to do. The friendship and trust really is the basis of this for me, and I would love something fluff for them.

A while back, I ran through the entire Zero Two cast out of curiosity in an attempt to figure out who the ideal ship for Sora would be. I wasn't very invested in her back then, on account of her not having much screentime, and I figured that trying to puzzle this out would give me a better understanding of dynamics involving her. The main criteria here are "capable of being someone she can lean on for support through her abusive family situation" and "capable of allowing her to want things," which are two things that haven't been going very well for her the last time we see her in canon.
My conclusion was that the optimal result would be Sora/Menoa; they both experienced partnership dissolution for similar reasons, and Menoa is empathetic to a fault and well-suited to breaking through her shell while Sora can act as a more chill stabilizing influence to keep her self-destructive tendencies in check.* Zero Two's epilogue holds that, at some point between 2010 and 2028, Sora should fuck off from the family business entirely to pursue a career she actually enjoys; Menoa seems like one of the best options for someone to help her do that. Given that neither of these characters appeared very often, anything I can say about their dynamic would inherently be speculation, but I honestly think they have the right "each of them is the person most perfectly suited to help advance the other's character arc" thing going on to be jogress partners should their respective partner digimon be reborn.
Thanks to the process of figuring out this niche rarepair that as far as I can tell didn't exist at all before I came up with it, I am now invested in Sora, and I'm interested to see what the fandom at large can do with this pairing. If you are a Zero Two enjoyer and a Kizuna understander, I encourage you to give it a shot.
*While I was typing this up, the phrase "the MadoHomu version of Miyako/Hikari" popped into my head — meaning, Miyako/Hikari if they were willing to do pointless cosmic-level stunts entirely in service of their relationship development — and I can't stop thinking about it.

If you know me, you know I live and breathe this ship, and am sufficiently obsessed with it that I have xkcd-2501-based Madness Enhancement preventing me from talking about it with anyone. I would like it very much if I could spread even a shadow of my Madness Enhancement to other authors so I have people to talk to about it.
My DNWs for this ship are few in number and very simple:
- Angst about the TV anime ending: about which I feel everything that can be said has already been said.
- Internalized homophobia: which in my opinion doesn't really match either of the characters. Ruki heavily implies she's always known she likes girls, and Renamon is hyper-repressed about her gender more than her sexuality.
- Soulmate AUs: which I feel would be thematically inconsistent with this ship in particular. This also includes AUs based on the continuity of Adventure 02.
As long as you're not in violation of my DNW feel free to do whatever you feel like. I'm always happy to have more people on board and more variety is more variety.
