Hi! I’m a little bit curious about the decision to count Angel and Angelus as the same character, and was hoping you might be able to give some advice about how that might work for requests.

Since Angel/Darla is the tag that got accepted, does that mean I could request that and DNW Angelus, or would that be considered an unenforceable DNW because both characters are getting matched on the same tag? And since the tag variants that got accepted are all Angel and not Angelus, does that mean there is no way to guarantee getting the character/ship I want if I don’t want Angel, and only want Angelus? I couldn’t request Angel/Darla/Drusilla/Spike and then say “DNW Angel, I actually want Angelus/Darla/Drusilla/Spike,” so should I maybe just not request a ship with either character if I have a preference for one character and not the other? Usually when I request Angelus in exchanges, I don’t particularly want Angel as a substitute because I’m looking for the specific unique ship dynamic that comes with Angelus (who is quite a bit rarer in fic than Angel).

I’ve never seen an exchange combine two characters into one before so I’m not totally sure how requesting either of them is supposed to work 😅 Usually exchanges keep them separate for matching, and that seems to me like it would be a little less confusing/more convenient, especially since they have separate canonical tags on AO3.

Honestly, I was trying to avoid setting a precedent that would lead to bigger ships getting in due to separating the "soulless" version of the characters from the original ship in what should still be a rare pair exchange.

You make a good point about the separate tags, which I have to admit I hadn't realized until this point. I get how matching would be difficult with the set specifications that you are looking for. So much like GB ships, I am willing to accept the Angelus tags for ships that qualify on their own (so Angelus/Darla/Drusilla/Spike will be accepted when I get back to it but Angelus/Buffy will not) and the rules will likely be amended for the next round. :)

I think “Aaravi Mishra/Zoe (monster prom)” and “Aaravi the slayer/Zoe (monster prom)” are the same ship.

Thank you for the head's up! "Aaravi Mishra/Zoe (Monster Prom)" has been removed from the tagset. :)
